This year the Downtown Billings Alliance sponsored a ‘Home for the Holidays’ gingerbread house competition among teams of architects and chefs to kick off the holiday season. Our office mulled it over and four willing individuals volunteered to take on the challenge. They decided that our Urban Frontier House was going to be the inspiration for their creation. And, what a creation it is!!! Our High Plains Architects team joined with the Lilac (restaurant specializing in local foods) team to build a smaller (to scale) version of our new house out of gingerbread and frosting complete with fruit leather solar panels, stacked peppermint candy rain barrels, and cinnamon bear miniatures on the front porch of Randy and me. (Of course, Randy’s bear has a moustache!) Randy and I were overwhelmed when we saw the finished product. And, the winner of the 2015 Gingerbread House Competition is (drumroll, please) …………… the High Plains Architects/Lilac team. The gingerbread house is on display in a downtown storefront on Broadway; our team was interviewed on the local news; and a photo of their winning entry was on the front page of the Local and State section of the Billings Gazette
. For their efforts, the Downtown Billings Alliance will make a $500 donation to the charity of their choice. What better way to kick off the holiday season!
