3D Printed Homes

DESCRIPTION

We are on the cusp of making history, alongside Homefront (Housing Authority of Billings) and Bespoke of Montana (Tim Stark, General Contractor)! That history is the creation of the first occupied 3D dwelling in the State of Montana, a printed duplex. High Plains Architects has led the design, focusing on passive heating and cooling strategies supplemented by electric systems powered by on-site renewables. We are utilizing an Apis Cor 3D printer for the exterior and interior walls and structural insulated panels (SIPs) for the upper walls and roof. Both units of the duplex will be accessible and feature low barrier furnishings and systems.

Tim Stark, the General Contractor leading the construction, is the key builder responsible for gaining the State’s approval (the first state in the nation) to build 3D printed homes in 2022 and we are thrilled to be working with him on this project. It is truly a revolutionary movement for construction in our region. When combined with the sustainable principles implemented in the architecture, this project is an absolute gamechanger for us and affordable housing in general.

The client, HomeFront, has been an incredible, forward-thinking partner on this project and deserve a ton of recognition for embracing new and innovative technology to help solve a community need. We anticipate this project to be featured on the national scene once completed.
